On May 28, the DENR, the SEC, and Japan’s Ministry of the Environment signed a formal agreement to build a shared system for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across Philippine industries. GHG stands for greenhouse gas — the emissions that trap heat in the atmosphere and drive climate change. For businesses, it means the carbon your operations produce. · · The agreement covers three things: better calculation tools so companies can measure their emissions accurately, nationwide training seminars to help businesses learn how to report, and a digital platform so the whole process can be done online and verified.

Here is why this matters for your business: this agreement is the infrastructure behind ESG reporting. The SEC’s new mandatory sustainability rules require companies to disclose their environmental performance. To do that credibly, they need a standardized way to measure it. That is what this system builds

The partnership also prepares Philippine businesses for international requirements that are coming whether the country is ready or not — including the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which will require importers to the EU to account for the carbon cost of their goods, and global carbon market rules under the Paris Agreement.

The system is being built now. The reporting requirements are coming. And for businesses in Cebu and across Visayas and Mindanao, the question is not whether this will affect you — it is whether you will be ready.

02 Upcoming Event

The EnviComm Forum is this Monday. This is the last chance

to get a seat.

ESG in Practice — what it really costs, and what Cebu businesses need to do before the year ends.

On Monday, June 29 — the final day of Environment Month — the EnviComm Forum convenes for a closed, practitioner-led conversation on ESG as a real business requirement. Not policy theory. Not a government briefing. A working session for business owners, GMs, PCOs, and compliance officers who need to understand what ESG means for their operations this year.

The panel covers three things: what ESG actually requires of Philippine businesses, the real cost of compliance from the ground up, and what changes in the second half of 2026 that needs attention now. The second half opens into a full roundtable — every person in the room joins the conversation.

Seats are limited to 30. If you want in, reply to this email today.

Date: Monday, June 29, 2026

Time: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (Registration opens at 1:00 PM)

03 Community Spotlight

In Ocaña, Carcar City, the people who live closest to the water know exactly what the mangroves do — and what happens when they are gone.

Mangroves are one of the most effective natural barriers a coastal community can have. They filter water, stabilize shorelines, absorb storm surges, and provide habitat for the fish that fishing families depend on. They are also one of the most effective carbon stores on the planet.

In Ocaña, Carcar City, community members shared what the mangroves in their area mean to their daily lives — how they protect livelihoods, clean the air, and keep the coastline standing. Their voices are a reminder that environmental protection is not an abstract policy goal. For many communities in the Philippines, it is the difference between stability and loss.

The people closest to nature often understand it best. Their knowledge — and their continued participation in protecting it — is what makes conservation work.

04 Envi-Comm Pro Tips

The EnviComm Forum is this Monday. Here are three questions worth bringing into the room.

Whether you are attending or not — these are the questions every Cebu business owner should be asking about ESG right now.

The June 29 Forum covers three things: what ESG actually requires, what it costs, and what changes before the year ends. To get the most out of the discussion — or to start thinking about these things on your own — here are three questions worth sitting with before Monday.

  • Does my business fall under the SEC’s new ESG reporting tiers? · The mandate starts with the largest listed companies but extends through supply chains. If your clients or buyers are covered, you may need to provide sustainability data soon — even if you are not directly regulated yet.
  • Which of my existing compliance documents already contain ESG data? · Your Self-Monitoring Reports (SMRs), Compliance Monitoring Reports (CMRs), and Environmental Management Plan (EMP) already track the environmental data that ESG reporting requires. The question is whether it is organized in a way that can be reported.
  • What is my biggest compliance or ESG gap right now — and what do I need in place before December 2026? · This is the question the Forum roundtable will ask every person in the room. Worth thinking about before you arrive.

You do not need to have the answers to walk into that room. That is what the Forum is for.
